Seasonal maintenance

5 min readUpdated March 2026

A new build doesn't need much attention, but it needs the right attention at the right time. This is the rhythm we recommend to owners on our HomeCare plan.

Spring (March – May)

Clear gutters after winter leaf fall and storms. Walk the perimeter and inspect render, brickwork and pointing. Check fence posts and garden gates after winter wind. Wash external windows and frames. Recoat external timber if it's on the cycle.

Summer (June – August)

Service the boiler before the autumn rush. Replace bathroom and kitchen silicone if it's failed. Check loft for any signs of water staining from winter storms. Inspect roof from ground with binoculars. Look for displaced tiles, missing mortar at ridge, lifted verges.

Autumn (September – November)

Clear gutters and downpipes after leaf fall. Test heating system before you need it. Bleed radiators and check pressure. Check external door seals and draught strips. Clean MVHR filters and extractor grilles.

Winter (December – February)

Insulate any exposed external pipework. Keep heating ticking over if the house is empty. Check loft after storms. Walk the garden after high winds. Look for displaced ridge tiles or missing verge clips. Photograph any new cracking with a ruler and date.
